Welcome and induction

We hope you will enjoy working at Birkbeck.

To help you get to know the College and your colleagues, we have put together some practical information about how things work at Birkbeck, what you need to know in your first few weeks with us and links to what’s going on in the College.

There is a lot to learn and absorb when you start a new job and your manager will go through all the practical things you need to know about to get up and running in your new job.

Your manager will:

  • arrange your induction and plan your meetings with the team and other colleagues you will be working with
  • agree your work objectives
  • identify any learning and development objectives
  • nominate a colleague, as required, to provide extra help and support during your induction.

You will also be given the opportunity to attend our corporate induction, 'Introduction to Birkbeck' which is run each term and aims to give you more of an insight into College life, learn about the College’s strategy and successes and to give you the opportunity to meet with colleagues from other teams.

In order to satisfy legal requirements, we must ensure that all new staff are eligible to work in the United Kingdom. Before you start working with Birkbeck you must bring or send to us your proof of identity to Human Resources.

An online induction course and checklists are available for academic, research, and professional and support staff (Birkbeck staff only).
